Job Posting – Watershed Outreach Assistant
The Milk River Watershed Council Canada is seeking a summer Outreach Assistant to join our team! Work and gain practical experiences in one of the most unique environments in Alberta! The Milk River Watershed!
The Milk River Watershed Council Canada (MRWCC) is a not‐for‐profit organization working in partnership with communities and residents to manage the Milk River watershed. The Council consists of members who live or work within the Milk River watershed, providing leadership and guidance in watershed monitoring, planning, management, education, and stewardship.

Position Description:
– Assist in the delivery of education programs and events related to watershed stewardship, agriculture, and environmental sciences throughout the watershed, including local parks, river access points, and community events.
– Assist in the field assessment and collection of watershed health monitoring data, including water quality, aquatic and terrestrial species at risk, and range/riparian monitoring.
– The successful candidate will gain skills in public presentation delivery, environmental stewardship, and ecological field assessment skills, as well as communicating with a variety of audiences and age ranges.
– Other tasks as directed by the Watershed Science Coordinator.
Qualifications:
– Between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
– Is a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act* with a valid social insurance number.
– Ability to work independently or as part of a team and manage time effectively.
– Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
– Comfortable working with different groups of people in the community
– Very good writing, presentation, public relations and interpersonal skills.
– Preference will be given to candidates with an area of study in environmental sciences, agriculture, biology or education
– Knowledge of and ability to identify plant communities, fish, wildlife, geography, and geology of the Milk River Watershed is an asset
– Experience delivering environmental education programs to youth and the general public is an asset
– Experience related to: Livestock production, Irrigation, Crop Production, Grazing Management an asset
– Experience working in or around water, including canoeing and/or kayaking, is an asset
– Valid basic first aid training an asset
Requirements:
– Valid Class 5 driver’s license
– Clean Criminal Record Check
– Availability during occasional evenings and scheduled Saturdays
– Reliable transportation

- Reports to Science Coordinator
- Work is based in the MRWCC Milk River office, Writing on Stone Provincial Park, and home office.
- All equipment required will be provided..
- Commuting opportunities available with staff from the Lethbridge area, all travel outside of regular scheduled office trips in private vehicles are reimbursed at a rate of $0.65/km. Any overtime is applied at a rate of 1.5/hr taken as time in lieu.
Wage: $22.00/hour
